An all‐plastic direct‐view liquid crystal display with light weight, high contrast, saturated colors, and wide viewing‐angle is proposed. The display combines three controllable liquid crystal cells with intermediate coated‐polymer liquid crystal retarder stacks to provide full‐color pixels. Prototype structures indicate that each pixel will have a wide color gamut, and optical efficiency over six times that of current DSTN displays.
