Abstract Many processes are being currently explored to fabricate the back panel of PDP. This paper presents a unique process for fabricating plasma display back panel, called “Low Temperature Co‐fired Ceramic on Metal (LTCC‐M)” back panel which is very simple and most cost‐effective approach to color PDP manufacturing as compared to other processes. By eliminating the complicated processes and replacing the base glass plate with thin metal sheet for barrier rib fabrication, this process will provide the lowest cost. This back panel has weight of less than one third and thickness of one fourth of conventional glass panel. Furthermore this back panel has a base metal plate and thus provides many advantages such as excellent thermal dissipation, no thermal distortion and ease of handling due to its flexibility and robustness.
