We have developed reflective type activematrix LCD (D‐ILA) for projection display which produces extra‐bright, high resolution (true SXGA), and high contrast images. The D‐ILA (Direct‐Drive Image Light Amplifier) device is based on a silicon LSI to get high reflectivity and it achieves a contrast ratio of 1000:1 by homeotropic liquid crystal alignment.
