A 42″ diagonal PALC display with VGA resolution has been developed. The new display shows the suitability of the PALC technology for large area flat panel displays. An advanced ASM mode has been developed and applied, resulting in a wide viewing angle. LCD technology has an intrinsic high daylight contrast and the display brightness can be independently adjusted by the backlight. By these properties the new 42″ PALC display can be effectively applied as wall‐hanging TV, or other applications where a combination of high brightness, large viewing angle, and daylight contrast is required.
