We designed polyimide films for LC alignment using polarized UV exposure. Unidirectional LC alignment with any desired pretilt angles from 0 up to 90 ° were obtained using a single oblique polarized UV exposure. Results suggest that photo‐decomposition of polyimide produces anisotropic van der Waals forcesz which aligns the LC.
