We have developed large area liquid crystal displays combining polymerized ferroelectric liquid crystal and plastic substrate. As an interesting application, 32‐inch(aspect ratio 16:9) film LCD was introduced as an optical shutter for 3D television. The shutter is attached directly to the face plate of 32‐inch conventional TV monitor with the polarizer in the back of the LCD, and we can observe 3D image easily only by wearing glasses with two polarizers in parallel and perpendicular arrangement to the polarizer in the back of the LCD.
