A new family of bright phosphors based on alkaline‐earth gallates has been discovered. Ce‐doped SrGa 2 O 4 has bright greenish‐blue PL and CL. The emission spectra exhibit the characteristic Ce 3+ ‐double peaks. BaGa 2 O 4 : Ce has a very bright yellow‐orange CL emission which peaks at 560 nm. Similar, but weaker, PL emission can be observed. These two phosphors are viable candidates for application in field emission displays.
