A mercury‐free cold cathode fluorescent lamp which is suitable for the backlighting of a car‐navigation display, has been developed. This lamp consists of one inner electrode and one outer electrode. By optimizing the structure of the electrode and the driving condition, a high luminous flux and a wide dimming control were achieved. The total luminous flux of this lamp reached to about 50% as much as that of a conventional Hg‐type CFL.
