A novel polarization conversion system for liquid crystal display (LCD) projectors is presented to improve light efficiency and uniformity. An offset design is employed in array plates to provide dual light paths for converting random polarized light into linearly polarized light. Additionally, the system performs shape conversion to yield a uniform illumination beam with a rectangular cross section.
