A method to control the viewing angles of liquid crystal displays (LCDs) with the controlling films externally to the device is presented. The film is composed of the prismatic or/and ellipsoid optical cells. By the design of shapes and structure parameters and the combination of the different cells, we can obtain the viewing‐angle‐controlling films within the range of ±20° to ±90°.
