An inner magnetic shield, which substantially improves the terrestrial magnetic characteristic, was developed for a CRT with a tensioned shadow mask. We proved that (1) the shape of the inner magnetic shield, (2) the joint resistance of each component, and (3) the material and tension of shadow mask all contributed to the magnetic characteristic. Based on our research, a ‘home base’‐shaped inner magnetic shield was developed and the performance was improved and nearly equivalent conventional CRT with a press mask.
