Abstract Recently, various projection display systems with projection optics have been developed and introduced. Among these systems, CRT projection displays seem to have better performance for large area displays for home use from the viewpoint of resolution, brightness and smoothness for fast moving pictures. In addition, CRT projection displays will provide excellent picture quality for ongoing and upcoming digital broadcasting. This paper updates the latest development and discusses advantages and disadvantages of CRT based projection displays.
