A new projection lens for high definition TV has been developed. The lens is designed to correct color aberration with diffractive optical element (DOE) and to realize the large numerical aperture (NA) lens. We have been able to improve the optical performance and brightness significantly without increasing the number of elements. The new projection lens has high brightness, high resolution and low manufacturing cost. This paper describes the design and fabrication of the hybrid projection lens with DOE for 56‐inch high definition CRT projection TV.
