The Sony/Candescent Joint Field Emission Display (FED) Technology Development Program has focused on the scalability of FED display technology. An FED architecture using standard high voltage P‐22 color phosphors has been scaled from 5.3 in. to 13.2 in. diagonal. Scaling of the assembly process and assembly tooling, and fabrication o6f longer support walls were the most critical elements to the successful evolution of the technology. Results demonstrate that further development will allow the technology to be scaled to sizes compatible with computer workstation (17–21 in. diagonal) applications.
