First results are reported on sputter‐deposition of blue emitting Ba‐Al‐S: Eu phosphors for inorganic electroluminescent FPD. Being used in Thick‐film Dielectric Electroluminescent (TDEL) devices, the phosphors exhibit EL‐luminance of about 200 cd/m 2 and the C.I.E. coordinates X=0.13 and Y=0.09‐0.12 at 60 V above the optical threshold voltage under 250 Hz pulse drive. Lifetime of 2500 h at 1200 Hz pulse voltage is achieved for rapid thermal processed phosphor that is equivalent to more than 30,000 h in a TV display application.
