In this paper we present the aspects of designing a seamless display using tiled Photoluminescent LCD PL‐LCD imaging elements. The method described combines a single LED backlight source, projection and beam shaping optics, LC pixel block and a photoluminescent screen, all of which make up a single element, which then in principle, allows tiling of arbitrary large displays using typical LCDs. Nevertheless, spatial variation in brightness, optical distortion and liquid crystal effects impose system design limitations and also cause front face appearance problems. All of these are reported and possible solutions described.
