A new LC mode which implements finger‐on‐plane (FOP) type common electrodes in a reflective light valve is proposed. The appropriate electrode geometry or shape design can overcome the problem of poor contrast ratio and low light efficiency in conventional LCoS. The simulation results indicate that the reflectance can reach above 80% even for the worst case in frame and column inversion driving schemes. We will also demonstrate that our device exhibit low dispersion in single cell gap configuration.
