Abstract Three‐dimensional fluid code was used to investigate the effect of barrier ribs on the addressing and the sustaining discharges. The barrier rib height and the cell pitch are the main parameters used in this study. The lower barrier rib height allows the faster addressing but requires the higher sustain voltage, while the wider cell pitch allows the lower address and sustain voltages. We used the voltage transfer curve to analyze the sustain period.
