Mercury‐free fluorescent lamps were fabricated and characterized. Such gases as Xe, Ne, and He were used as discharge gases a d the plasma display phosphors were used. The luminance and efficiency of the fabricated lamp were 4,500 cd/m 2 and 13 lm/W, respectively, when the mixture of Xe and Ne was used as discharge gas.
