Accommodation was measured while subjects viewed a retinal scanned light display that has a focus plane near optical infinity. Compared with dark accommodation, subjects over‐accommodated to the display (mean 2D; 0–8D range). Subjects were unaware of blurring, suggesting open‐loop accommodation. Accommodation fluctuates greatly between subjects viewing a fixed‐focus retinal scanning display.
