Within CRT projection systems optical phase shifts are introduced at the field edges as an unavoidable consequence of using low f‐number large format lenses. An evaluation of image quality showed phase need not be accounted for in addition to modulation transfer function (MTF) for lenses typical of those found in commercial flight simulators.
