This paper summarizes some critical display integration activities that were performed on the U‐2 Reconnaissance Avionics Maintainability Program (RAMP). The objective of RAMP was to upgrade the U‐2 mechanical instrument based cockpit to a glass cockpit based on LCD technology. Design trades based on requirements, anthropometric restrictions, state of the art of display performance, and the use of Off‐The‐Shelf hardware are presented. In addition, lessons learned are also presented. It is intended that this paper will provide some insight on display factors that need to be accounted for to successfully complete a cockpit display upgrade program.
