In this paper, we discuss electrochromic displays based on nanostructured metal‐oxide electrodes, “electric‐paint displays”. Lab devices and screen‐printed prototypes with capacitive counter electrodes are presented. These displays have a nice paint‐on‐paper look with a bright background, sharp and variable colours, as well as good angular properties. The displays switch in a couple of 100 milliseconds and the colouration is retained for 5–10 minutes in open circuit. Display prototypes sustain several million switching cycles.
