— This paper presents contrast‐ratio data measured from high‐brightness TFT color LCDs under various ambient illumination levels encountered in outdoor environments. In these measurements, several LCD front polarizers with anti‐glare (AG) and anti‐reflective (AR) coatings have been used. The measured contrast‐ratio data are compared and the impact due to the AG and AR coatings is briefly discussed. The test equipment that simulates different cases of outdoor illumination is also presented.
