A novel technology is presented which facilitates the design and fabrication of extremely compact light‐guide optical elements (LOE) for, among other applications, head‐mounted displays. The technology enables the achievement of very wide fields‐of view (FOVs), together with relatively large eye‐motion‐box values, see‐through capability (even for daylight conditions), full color performance and diffraction‐limited optical quality.
