An image enhancement algorithm for low‐vision television viewing was developed. The algorithm enhances the images in the JPEG/MPEG domain by weighting the quantization table. The advantages of our algorithm are threefold: (1) Low computation (only a change of the 8×8 quantization table in the decoding stage); (2) Suitable for real‐time application; and (3) easily manipulated by individual users, because the enhancement level can be controlled at the receiver.
