The new driving method is proposed based on the luminance compensation against subfield variation for balancing the white color in an AC PDP. The luminance ratio among the red, green, and blue light can be controlled independently by applying the different auxiliary address pulses to the red, green, and blue cells during a sustain‐period. As a result, the minimum perceptible white color difference (Δuv < 0.002) with respect to the reference white color at SF 5 is obtained irrespective of the variation in the subfield from SF 1 to SF 8 .
