A high reliability external electrode fluorescent lamp (EEFL) has been developed for a LC TV's backlight by examining characteristics of the EEFL, in addition, by improving an inner‐surface condition of the lamp at the external electrode portion to reduce the mercury consumption, and an adhesive layer of the external electrode to avoid the lamp leakage during lighting.
