Abstract The design and technologies used in the industrial development of a Hopping Electron Cathode (HEC) for CRT application are described. This contribution focuses on the developmnet of: (1) a “Low‐drive” current modulator, (2) a HEC funnel with well‐defined small exit opening, that is vital for spot performance, and (3) the design of a complete and life results of CRTs with HEC are shown. First performance and life results of CRTs with HEC are shown.
