The next goal to minimize the bulkiness of CRTs is likely to realize a half depth of conventional CRTs. The evolution on a shallow glass funnel structure has been made to find our way to the goal. It can reduce dramatically the weight of the glass bulb for a wide deflection angle CRT. In addition, some investigations are being conducted in pursuit of strengthening glass bulbs, by which we would get the competence for a further weight reduction.
