Lamp cooling is a critical problem for thermal design in a projection system. In the present study, numerical simulations of temperature and stress of a HID lamp are performed under real situation in a projector. The velocity fields of cooling air and temperature distribution of reflector and quartz tube were calculated first. After that, the temperature distribution was mapped to a finite element mesh with the same geometrical model. And then, the stress field was calculated.
