In order to meet the demand for an instant and temperature independent light source the tubular mercury free excimer lamp LINEX® was developed. Further characteristics are the OSRAM proprietary pulsed operation for enhanced efficiency [1] and internal high voltage electrodes [2] for improved safety. Technical features of this novel light source will be presented. First applications are LCD backlighting and office automation.
