— We report a new technique for the design of field‐sequential‐color liquid‐crystal displays (FS‐LCDs), which maximizes the liquid‐crystal response, t LC , by dividing the display area into as few sub‐areas, N , as possible. We obtained the following results: (1) t LC increased as N increased, although saturation tended to occur. Increasing N from 1 to 2 gave the largest increase in t LC . (2) t LC was maximized by dividing the display area unequally.
