— A simple method for determining the cell gap and pretilt angle of a vertically aligned reflective liquid‐crystal display has been developed. By extrapolating the phase‐retardation curve of the VA—LC cell in the high‐voltage regime, we can determine the cell gap. With this value for the cell gap and the low‐voltage part of the phase‐retardation curve, we can determine the pretilt angle.
