Abstract Fourth‐Generation PDPs of Pioneer have been put in the market place last year. The power consumption has become lower than that of LCDs by the reduction of inefficient power. The image quality has reached to the level better than or equal to that of CRTs by the newly developed technologies of “natural enhancer,” “super CREAR driving method,” etc. Their Annual power consumption, number of gray steps and gray step pitch on low luminance image are 299kWh/year (43‐in. model), 1024 steps, and 1/32500 pitch on low luminance image under 6 IRE, respectively.
