In this paper, we will introduce a novel MultiLED package that is ideal for application as a light source in LCD backlighting systems. We will discuss its optical, thermal and electrical performance in a prototype for a 17″ LCD monitor and demonstrate that this package enables an optical design of reduced complexity. Finally we will discuss a light guide solution that will enable unlimited flexibility in terms of size and luminance.
