The development of industry, especially materials science provides opportunities for the application ofnew materials in rail transport to ensure safety and improve the efficiency of the whole transport sector. One of the areas to increase the efficiency of the locomotive department is reducing the cost of routine maintenance, most of which falls on supplies. This is especially true of braking systems on the quality ofwhich depends on the safety and efficiency of the transportation process. Consumable component in the locomotive brake systems are the brake pads. The aim of the proposed work is to study the effectiveness ofusing new iron brake shoes type W14 in a real operation on railways of Ukraine. A comparative performance test pads Ivano-Frankivsk TRZ type MTRUZ 38.90.712205. Determined the effectiveness and feasibility of using a new type of brake pad.
