The article analyzes archival documents that reflect the life of the industrial and commercial estate of the Vladimir province of the XIX century. These materials contain a significant array of paperwork on family and inheritance law. Their introduction into scientific circulation allows us to understand the laws governing the functioning of the system of protecting property and civil rights of the population, in the conditions of developing market relations and the dynamic growth of capital of the business class. Also, the documents examined by us allow us to determine the forms of interaction, control and subordination of administrative bodies. These documents to a large extent characterize the quality of life of the entrepreneurial class, mechanisms for regulating the private interests of citizens on the basis of legal norms that existed at a certain historical stage.
