The article is devoted to the issues of the institution of independence in the implementation of defense in criminal proceedings. On the basis of general laws of activity, the goals and objectives of a lawyer are formulated in criminal proceedings. Participants in criminal proceedings, in accordance with their sense of justice, interpret the legislative goals depending on the specific legal situation. Today, the development of the legal profession is the center of large-scale reforms carried out in the judicial system. In particular, significant work is being carried out to strengthen the role and significance of the legal profession as one of the effective institutions for the protection of the rights, freedoms and legal interests of individuals and legal entities. Particular attention is paid to the development of this area in a number of normative legal acts adopted in recent years, as well as in the form of new legislative acts being developed today.
