The article discusses the approaches of the European Court of Human Rights to ensuring and protecting privileges one of the most important guarantees of legal profession. Author pays attention to four problems: covert surveillance of an advocate, wire tapping of telephone between an advocate and a client, viewing of correspondence of an advocate and a client, searches in an advocate’s premises.
