The purpose of the study is to make an ideographic classification of Russian and German terms of glass production. The object of the study is the terms of glass production functioning in the industry professional discourse of native speakers of Russian and German. The subject of the study is the semantic diversity of production terms, which is the basis for identifying thematic groups of terms and compiling an ideographic classification. In the course of the study, the continuous sampling method, the descriptive method, the analysis of contextual uses and definitions of terms were used. The result of the work is an ideographic classification of Russian and German terms of glass production, which includes twelve thematic groups. Conclusions. The selected thematic groups of production terms are the same for the Russian and German languages and include terms denoting: glass products, their defects, flaws and characteristics; raw materials and consumables, technological processes, methods and types of glass processing; energy carriers and waste products; equipment and works related to its installation, operation and repair; production space; industry professions and branch of activity. The practical value of the research lies in the fact that its results can be used in teaching comparative disciplines, as well as become the basis for compiling a bilingual terminological dictionary.
