In the proposed review, the physical regularities of shock processes in impact machines, procedures and means of their registration by the strain gauge method are considered. Recommendations for measuring the energy of a single impact and the energy of a shock pulse, certification of measuring transducers and processing of experimental data are given. Examples of measurements with an estimate of the error of the results obtained are given
