In the present work the research of the problem of actual division of the scientific text and its role in English is carried out, the question of lexical subject and lexical predicate is considered. The paper discusses several means of expressing the actual division such as semantic highlighting of the subject, constructions with introducing “there” and “it”, using direct objects to the subject at the beginning of the sentence, semantic highlighting the adverbial modifiers in the sentence, inverting the final rheme to the beginning of the sentence, expressing the theme and the rheme in infinitive constructions, in the interrogative sentences and in the sentences lacking a finite verb. The work concludes that the most common means of expressing the actual division of the English sentence is a logical stress.
