The views of researchers on the origin and development of the terms "jargon", "argot", "slang" are discussed in this article. The author considers various social dialects in terms of their similarities and differences. The article attempts to distinguish the concepts of slang and jargon, a brief comparative analysis of these nominations is carried out.
