Social protection of the population is an integral and one of the primary directions of the social policy of the Russian Federation. The role and importance of this direction is difficult to overestimate, because it is through social protection that the state supports the level and quality of life of its citizens, monitors the degree of satisfaction of material and other needs, creates comfortable conditions for human life and development. When carrying out activities in the field of social protection, the authorities adhere to certain principles, norms and rules. Thus, a whole system of social protection of the population is formed, which involves the interaction of budgetary and extra-budgetary funds at the level of the federation, the region and the municipality. Thus, implementing social policy, and, in particular, social protection of the population, the state seeks to create a developed system of social protection aimed at establishing stability in society and ensuring the well-being of the entire people. This article will discuss the theoretical aspects, the fundamental principles, the main functions and forms of social protection of the population in the Russian Federation.
