Le roman franco-algérien : lumière sur le 17 octobre 1961

Cette étude porte sur la représentation de la répression des manifestants algériens le 17 octobre 1961 à Paris dans Le Sourire de Brahim, dans La Seine était rouge et dans Une nuit d’octobre. Nous insisterons sur les faits historiques mis en lumière dans ces romans franco-algériens et sur les procédés littéraires telle que la polyphonie qui dénoncent l’oubli et l’occultation de cette réalité historique par l’État français pendant et après la guerre d’Algérie. This study focuses on the fictional representation of the violent oppression by French police of Algerian demonstrators in Paris on October 17, 1961. Our objective is to examine the historical reality at the heart of three Franco-Algerian novels (Le Sourire de Brahim, La Seine était rouge and Une nuit d’octobre) and, in particular, their use of literary techniques such as polyphony to denounce the French state’s ‘oversight’ of institutional violence towards Algerians in France, specifically during and after the Algerian war of independence.
