RESUMO: Este trabalho consiste em uma análise das transformações pelas quais o discurso político passou desde a Antiguidade Clássica, com estudos de retórica realizados por Aristóteles. Após verificar os postulados aristotélicos e suas transformações através do tempo, foram tomados dois exemplos da contemporaneidade como ilustração para a análise: a carta testamento de Getúlio Vargas (1954) e o discurso de posse de Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995). PALAVRAS-CHAVE: política, discurso, linguagem, retórica. ABSTRACT: This work consists of an analysis of the transformation of political discourses since classical antiquity, with Aristotle’s study of rhetoric. After examining Aristotle’s hypothesis and its transformations throughout time, two examples were taken from contemporary life: the will of Getúlio Vargas (1954) and Fernando Henrique Cardoso’s inaugural speech (1995).
