A biblioteca artística do Império * The Empire's artistic library

O artigo enfoca o processo de formação da biblioteca da Academia Imperial de Belas Artes no Rio de Janeiro entre 1826 e 1855, destacando os esforços empreendidos, principalmente, por diretores e professores. Pretendeu-se analisar as formas de aquisição de obras, as características gerais do acervo, a sala destinada à biblioteca no Palácio das Belas Artes, a organização e as normas, bem como refletir acerca dos possíveis usos do espaço e dos exemplares pelos leitores.*This paper focuses on the formation process of the library “Academia Imperial de Belas Artes”, in Rio de Janeiro, from 1826 to 1855, with an emphasis on the directors’ and teachers’ efforts. It aimed to analyze the forms of work acquisition, the general characteristics of the book collection, the library’s room in the “Palácio das Belas Artes”, the organization and the rules, as well as reflected on the possible ways the readers could use the room and the books.
