Le rêve d’un naturaliste, ou Le Songe de Strindberg

L’incursion de Strindberg dans le monde du paranormal et des sciences occultes a eu un effet non négligeable sur son écriture, comme en témoigne Le Songe, rédigé à la suite de sa crise mystique. Or, un examen de l’œuvre montre que ce naturaliste, en écrivant cette pièce, demeure en fait fidèle à lui-même, étant toujours convaincu de la véracité, et donc du réalisme, du monde qu’il y représente. Voilà ce que le présent article tente de prouver en se penchant sur la représentation du paranormal, les méthodes de persuasion employées et l’importance accordée par Strindberg au rôle de l’écrivain.AbstractStrindberg’s foray into the world of the occult and paranormal clearly had an effect on his writing style, as transpires from his Dream Play, written after his mystical crisis. However, a careful examination of this play shows that Strindberg remained true to his naturalistic roots. Indeed, it is obvious that he was still convinced of the veracity – and therefore of the realism – of the world he was depicting. This article focuses on Strindberg’s representation of the paranormal, the techniques employed to convey his beliefs, and his conception the writer’s role.
