The data which the greek and roman authors give us about the Rex Sacrorum show this one as if he were the heir of the religious powers that at first belonged to the King. The Rex Sacrorum representa himself the divine forces that the three flamines maiores personify in an analitycal way. The ceremony of the Regifugium -connected whit the annual cycle of nature- evoke a matriarcal and exogamic state in which the King had to risk his title in a competition every year.
